KUWAIT CITY, July 10: Instances of fraud and deception persist, with new methods constantly emerging. One such method involves receiving a call where, upon answering, an "automated response" claims to be an official from the Ministry of Interior. The caller demands full cooperation, stating that the call is being recorded.

The Asian impersonating the officer

Another fraudulent tactic involves receiving WhatsApp calls from individuals claiming to be Ministry of Interior officers, using misleading profile pictures. The Ministry of Interior has previously cautioned against such scams.

In a recent incident, our security editor received an unexpected video chat call via a free program, displaying the Ministry of Interior logo, reports Al Anba. However, upon answering the call, they encountered an individual of Asian origin, attempting to imitate the local dialect. When asked about their identity, the person replied, "I am Colonel 'M.M,' Director of the Ministry of Interior." They then proceeded to demand that the colleague open their wallet, remove their civil and bank cards, and provide certain data for updating and verification.

The demand was accompanied by threats and promises of dire consequences for non-compliance. Responding swiftly, the journalist hung up the call, captured a screenshot of the imposter's profile picture and the displayed logo, and proceeded to block the caller.
