Prominent personalities under probe for violating curfew – ‘Nobody is above law’

KUWAIT CITY, May 28: Officers of the Hawalli Security Directorate while manning a checkpost in South Surrah saw a person approaching the checkpoint in his vehicle at dawn and when he was asked why he was out of the street during the curfew, he allegedly said he is from the ruling family and that he has something to deliver to his brother.

The security source continued saying by checking his data, it was found that he did not carry a permit to be out on the road during the curfew, and was referred to the area police station, and after the Assistant Undersecretary for General Security Affairs Major General Faraj Al-Zoubi was informed about the incident instructions were issued to refer the sheikh for investigation and a case of breaking the curfew has been filed against him.

Meanwhile, the source also said in the second incident the brother of an unidentified MP has been referred to the Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) after he was taken to the Al- Zahra Police Station for the same reason.

When he was confronted, he told the men guarding the post that he had forgotten his wallet at home and claimed he is the brother of an MP but instructions were issued by the senior ministry official to refer him to the authorities.

In the third incident an officer with the rank of first lieutenant was also arrested for violating the curfew. He was arrested at one of the checkpoints in the Capital Governorate. He is also charged with insulting the men guarding the checkpoint. For Major-General Al-Zoubi no one is above the law.
