KUWAIT CITY, Jan 6: MP Abdul Wahab Al-Issa has proposed allowing local companies with a reputable track record to carry out road repair works, reports Al-Seyassah daily. Al-Issa pointed out that the decision of the Central Agency for Public Tenders (CAPT) to cancel road repair contracts in all governorates for international companies, in response to the Ministry of Public Works’ request, “is predictable from the outset.”

He said: “We have opted to remain silent in the hope of being proven wrong, trusting that foreign companies would find it economically unfeasible to bring their heavy equipment and skilled labor for short-term contracts lasting from six months to a year. If they secured the contract, subcontracting with local companies would be inevitable due to the presence of their equipment and labor in Kuwait. This was validated in the State Audit Bureau’s reports when the estimated project costs soared by 200 percent.” He suggested “opting for local companies with a clean track record, as this approach ensures swifter completion, reduced costs, and enhanced scrutiny of sample testing throughout the implementation process.”
