KUWAIT CITY, July 23: The Court of Cassation upheld the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals which sentenced a Saudi prince to seven-year imprisonment with hard labor and a fine of KD 10,000. The defendant was accused of kidnapping his children from his Kuwaiti ex-wife.
The Criminal Court had acquitted the Saudi prince, but the Court of Appeals overruled the verdict and sentenced the defendant to seven years of jail time and a fine of KD 10,000.
The plaintiff (the Kuwaiti ex-wife of the Saudi prince) had filed a lawsuit in which she explained that the defendant kidnapped her children during one of his visits, which are allowed by the law for separated couples. However, he did not return the children later in an effort to punish her as she has the custody of their children
