President Aoun Says Israel’s Attacks Signal Potential Ground Offensive
President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun

BEIRUT,(AP), Mar 22: Lebanese President Joseph Aoun warned that Israeli strikes on key infrastructure in southern Lebanon may signal preparations for a ground invasion, following the destruction of another major highway bridge.

Israel says the attacks are aimed at limiting the movement of Hezbollah fighters and weapons. However, the strikes have increasingly cut off large parts of southern Lebanon as hostilities intensify.

“They are a prelude to a ground invasion,” Aoun said, noting that Lebanon has raised its concerns through diplomatic channels.

The president also reiterated his commitment to disarm Hezbollah and said he is open to direct negotiations with Israel in an effort to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.

The situation remains volatile, with fears growing of further escalation on the ground.
