Port staffer in bribery; 10 illegals arrested

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 4: An assistant controller in Shuwaikh Port has been arrested for agreeing to allow containers to bypass the customs zone in return for cash and kind bribe, the Interior Ministry said on Saturday. The General Department for Criminal Investigations (Money Crimes Control) was tipped off that the Kuwaiti employee had agreed with a Syrian expatriate to let the three containers out of the Port unexamined in return for KD 60,000 in cash, and kind bribe that included air tickets, the ministry’s Security Media Department said in a statement. It added that the police managed to record and audio conversation between both, noting that they had cooperated together many times since June, and that the employee had helped other traders. The two suspects were referred to the concerned authorities. (KUNA)

10 illegals arrested: Personnel from the Residence Affairs Department during a crackdown on residence law violators have arrested 10 persons of various nationalities for violating residence laws, says a press release issued by the department. The violators were picked up from cafés in Ardhiya. The press release said the sponsors had filed missing persons report on seven, two did not carry any documents and one carried Article 20 residence permit. All those arrested have been referred to the concerned authorities for necessary legal measures.

Mugger nabbed: The Hawalli police have arrested a young well-built Kuwaiti for robbing expatriates, reports Al-Anba daily. A security source said the arrest came after a Bangladeshi filed a complaint with the Hawally Police Station saying the man was armed with a knife, threatened to kill him and stole KD 508 from him
