Play more proactive role in tackling global issues, Kuwait urges AALCO – Counselor Al-Dhabibi heads delegation to 55th meet

NEW DELHI, May 17, (KUNA): The Kuwaiti delegation from the Ministry of Justice called on the Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO) to play a more proactive role in resolving issues pertaining to the international law and achieving peace and stability in Asia and Africa. This remark was made, Tuesday, by Chairman of the Appeals Chamber in the Justice Ministry of Kuwait Counselor Ali Musaed Al- Dhabibi who arrived in New Delhi heading a delegation from the ministry to attend AALCO’s 55th meeting.

Delegates from a number of Asian and African countries are participating in the event which kicked off in New Delhi where AALCO is headquartered. Speaking to KUNA, Al-Dhabibi underlined the important role that AALCO is playing in dispute resolution and building international awareness about the issues Asian and African countries are facing. He hailed the organization for its continues efforts to bring the Palestine issue at the international fora and to provide continues support to the people of Palestine in addition to campaigning to end the Israeli violations.

AALCO has always kept the Palestine issue at the top of its agendas during the previous annual meetings. He expressed hope that the organization would further play key roles in achieving global cooperation, especially after the election of a new president from Africa during the current meeting.

On behalf of the Kuwaiti delegation, Al-Dhabibi expressed gratitude to the Kuwaiti Ambassador Fahad Ahmad Al-Awadhi and Counselor Osama Al Obaid for according them a warm welcome to India in addition to making all other arrangements. He thanked the Indian government and people for extending its support to the Asian and African population especially the Palestine people by strengthening AALCO. Indian External Affairs Ministry Secretary (West) Sujata Mehta delivered the inaugural speech while President of the 54th Annual Session Liu Zhenmin from the People’s Republic of China and Secretary General of AALCO Rahmat Mohamad welcomed the guests from member countries and other participating dignitaries.

Following the historic Bandung Conference, held in Indonesia, in April 1955 the Asian Legal Consultative Committee (ALCC) was formed in November 1956 with India, Iraq, Japan, Egypt, Syria, Indonesia, Myanmar and Sri Lanka as the founding members. However, increasing participation from the Asian countries and joining of many African countries led to renaming the organization as Asian-African Legal Consultative Committee (AALCC) in 1958. In a meeting held at New Delhi headquarters the name was changed to Asian-African Legal Consultative Organization (AALCO).

Kuwaiti delegation to the event include Legal Department Councellor at the Foreign Ministry Saud Abdullah Al- Harabi apart from Hiba Al-Abdul Jaleel, Hanadi Hamad Al- Homadi, Khaled Al-Essa and Yousef Al-Failkawai from the Justice Ministry.
