KUWAIT CITY, July 22: Kuwait and China reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening defense and strategic cooperation as the Chinese Embassy in Kuwait marked the 99th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Tuesday at Crowne Plaza.

The celebration, hosted by Chinese Ambassador Yang Xin and Defense Attaché Senior Colonel Liu Zongzhen, was attended by senior Kuwaiti officials, diplomats and representatives of international organizations.

The chief guest, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defense Sheikh Dr. Abdullah Meshaal Al-Sabah praised the "distinguished relations" between Kuwait and China, describing them as being built on friendship, mutual respect and a well-established strategic partnership, particularly in the fields of defense and security.

The event was also attended by the representative of the Chief of the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army, Commander of the Artillery Corps Brig. Gen. Faisal Al-Ajil, along with heads of diplomatic missions and international organizations.

In his remarks, Senior Colonel Liu Zongzhen highlighted the long-standing friendship between Kuwait and China, noting that the strategic partnership has made significant progress in recent years, particularly in military cooperation.

Addressing the gathering, the Chinese Defense Attaché highlighted the PLA’s history, stating that the army was established to serve the Chinese people and has developed into a modern military force committed to safeguarding national security and supporting global peace.

He said that over the past 99 years, the PLA has followed a national defense policy focused on protecting peace and stability. He noted China's participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions, with more than 50,000 Chinese military personnel contributing to peacekeeping operations in over 20 regions around the world, making China one of the largest contributors among UN Security Council member states.

The Chinese military representative emphasized that the PLA’s international missions reflect China's support for the United Nations and its commitment to maintaining global peace and security.

He also praised the strong and growing relations between Kuwait and China, saying that the strategic partnership between the two countries has achieved significant progress in recent years, supported by the Amir of Kuwait His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and the President of China His Excellency Xi Jinping.

Highlighting current regional and global challenges, he said the world is experiencing major transformations and stressed the importance of cooperation between countries to address security challenges and maintain stability.

The Chinese official expressed hope for continued cooperation between the Chinese and Kuwaiti armed forces, saying both sides would work together to implement agreements, enhance military exchanges and contribute to regional peace and security.

The ceremony was attended by senior Kuwaiti military officials, including representatives of the Kuwait Army, diplomats and officials from various international organizations.
