LONDON, Oct 28: The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has warned vessels transiting the Gulf of Aden to exercise caution after reports of suspicious small-boat activity near merchant ships, potentially indicating the presence of a Pirate Action Group.

In Advisory 184-26, issued on Oct 28, UKMTO said it had received reports of suspicious activity in the area from multiple sources at approximately 1030 UTC.

The reports described several sightings of suspicious small craft near merchant vessels. One report identified a green-and-blue boat carrying nine people and equipped with two ladders and a hook.

UKMTO said authorities were investigating the reports.

Vessels operating in the area have been advised to transit with caution, follow the guidance outlined in the relevant maritime security best management practices (BMP), and report any suspicious activity to UKMTO.

The advisory did not confirm that any vessel had been attacked or boarded.
