LOS ANGELES, Oct 24, (Agencies): In a recent interview with "60 Minutes," Pink candidly shared her tumultuous past, revealing a harrowing near-death experience due to a drug overdose in the 1990s.
Pink, whose real name is Alecia Moore, described her early years growing up in a household marred by constant turmoil, with her parents engaged in frequent, volatile arguments. The singer expressed, "I grew up in a house where every day my parents were screaming at each other, throwing things. They hated each other."
During that turbulent phase, Pink considered herself a "punk" and eventually found herself caught in a downward spiral. She began using and selling drugs, a path that led to her expulsion from her family home and her decision to drop out of high school. "I was off the rails," she reflected on those challenging times.
The turning point came on Thanksgiving Day in 1995 when Pink attended a rave and overdosed on a dangerous mix of substances, including ecstasy, angel dust, and crystal, among others. She revealed how this combination pushed her to the brink of death. It marked a pivotal moment in her life, serving as the wake-up call that would ultimately lead her away from the grip of hard drugs.
Following that life-altering incident, Pink decided to steer clear of "hard drugs." A few weeks later, she secured her first record deal as part of an all-girls R&B group. Over time, she transitioned into her successful solo career, adopting the teenage nickname "Pink," which she is now renowned for.
In the interview, Pink emphasized her unwavering commitment to pushing herself to new heights in various aspects of her life. She stated, "I keep demanding more and more from myself physically, emotionally, spiritually, vocally. I want to raise the bar all the time." The artist is determined to challenge the notion that women should slow down, take up less space, or become smaller. Her resolute response is a defiant, "No. Absolutely not. Why can't we ride it till the wheels fall off?"
Pink's commitment to breaking barriers and defying limitations is evident in her unwavering pursuit of excellence, and she fully intends to continue along this path. As she declared, "That's what I plan on doing."
