Philippines named Asia’s best cruise destination

MANILA, Philippines, Oct 17, (Agencies): In a groundbreaking achievement, the Philippines claimed the coveted title of Asia’s Best Cruise Destination for the first time in 2023 at the prestigious World Cruise Awards held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco hailed this achievement as a momentous victory for Philippine tourism, emphasizing that it resonates with the global preference for the country’s captivating island destinations. “The Philippines’ recognition as Asia’s premier cruise destination not only aligns with our status as a must-visit location for cruise enthusiasts but also serves as validation for the unwavering commitment of the entire tourism industry and the Department of Tourism,” stated Frasco. She expressed gratitude that the country’s potential for delivering exceptional cruise experiences has been acknowledged on a global scale.

Competing with other prominent nations such as India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam, the Philippines emerged as the standout winner.

As of Oct 16, 2023, the Philippines is on track to host an impressive 128 cruise ship ports of call across 33 distinct destinations within the country. These cruise ships are anticipated to bring in over 101,000 passengers and an estimated crew of around 50,000, as announced in a recent press release. Notable cruise liners set to visit include the Seaborne Encore, Silver Shadow, MSC Poesia, Queen Elizabeth, Norwegian Jewel, Coral Adventure, MS Seven Seas Explorer, MS Star Breeze, Silver Whisper, Oceania Cruises, Aidabella, and the Blue Dream Cruise, which made its inaugural voyage to the Philippines this month.

The World Cruise Awards, an annual program that celebrates excellence in the cruise industry, is affiliated with the esteemed World Travel Awards. It serves as a platform to acknowledge remarkable contributions to the world of cruising.
