KUWAIT CITY, July 15: The Court of Appeals ordered an insurance company to pay heirs of a deceased Egyptian expatriate (former employee of a big company) KD 30,000 in consequence of the company’s negligence and non-compliance to safety and security regulations. The lawsuit filed by Lawyer Hassan Al-Ajmi on behalf of the plaintiff indicated some employees of the company caused the death of the victim unintentionally due to lack of security and safety system, and negligence of the company. According to the lawyer, the employee was a subcontractor at the site where the incident occurred and the defense company was the main contractor, which should have provided security and safety thereof. He explained the victim was assigned to go down into a manhole at Jaber Al-Ahmad City, which was six meters deep, to clean without affirming if the place was free of poisonous substance. The company did not even provide the victim necessary materials such as overall, mask, helmet and boots for that purpose.

Diplomat fined: The First Instance Court fined a citizen – a diplomat at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs – for insulting and assaulting securitymen, reports Al-Rai daily. According to a knowledgeable source, the Public Authority for Agriculture Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) carried out a campaign to address the alleged grazing irregularities in Jahra Governorate. At the time, the concerned officials issued a warning to the owner of a livestock pen near the highway as the camels might go to Sixth Ring Road, but the owner objected to the procedures followed by PAAAFR under the pretext of protesting against what he regarded as confiscation. This prompted PAAAFR to call security officers from the Interior Ministry. When the officers arrived at the location, they found out that the owner of livestock pen called the diplomat to help him. The latter came and objected to the procedures, during which he insulted and assaulted the securitymen. A case was registered and the diplomat was referred to the Public Prosecution. Although the officers decided to withdraw the case later, the judge imposed KD 50 fine for each of the charges.
