Historic moment captured: Palestine and Syria celebrate Arab Cup quarterfinal success together, sharing triumph after hardship.

DOHA, Dec 8: The qualification of Palestine and Syria to the quarterfinals of the Arab Cup has brought a moment of shared joy not only to the players and fans of these teams but to all football enthusiasts.

Both nations have faced tremendous challenges in recent years. Beyond the hardships endured by Palestinians for over 75 years under Israeli occupation, the people of Gaza—and Palestinians at large—have suffered immensely over the past two years. Similarly, Syrians have endured the consequences of a prolonged war for more than 13 years.

The teams’ achievements are therefore well-earned, and the heartfelt congratulations exchanged after the matches reflect the players’ shared sense of struggle and resilience.

Although Qatar and Tunisia, strong favorites in the group, were eliminated, the host nation’s fans warmly applauded Palestine and Syria, celebrating the joy that comes to two nations after long years of hardship.

Commentator Mohammed Al-Otaibi remarked, “These expressions of happiness send a message to anyone who sought to divide them. These are people who have experienced the same suffering and tragedy.”

Syrian coach José Lana said, “We have proven our responsibility, and everyone feels pride and honor.”

Syrian player Mohammed Al-Salakhdi added, “Representing Syria is a true honor. I am proud to be here, and my goal is to bring joy to our fans.”

Palestinian coach Ihab Abu Jazar described his team’s qualification as “historic and a major achievement, bringing happiness to Palestinian fans across the country and abroad.”

He continued, “Given the challenges in Palestine, every competition is an important opportunity for the national team to maintain its presence. Our ambitions are high, and we are focused on the next match.”
