ISLAMABAD, July 30: Pakistan Foreign Office on Thursday said that Pakistan welcomes Kuwait’s ratification of Pakistan- Kuwait Defense Cooperation Agreement, issued recently in the official gazette. Addressing weekly press briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad, Pakistan Foreign Office Spokesperson Tahir Andrabi termed the recent visit of Kuwait’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah as “important both in regional context as well as in bilateral terms.” Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed Kuwait’s ratification of Pakistan-Kuwait Defense Cooperation Agreement, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening institutional defense ties and collaboration between the two countries, he explained.
Pakistan and Kuwait reaffirmed their strong and long-standing bilateral partnerships, and agreed to deepen cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, energy, Information Technology (IT), agriculture, education, health, and other priority sectors, through sustained highlevel engagements and establishment of the joint working groups, the spokesperson noted. “The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international developments and pledged to continue coordination at the multilateral forum and reaffirmed our shared commitment to further advance this important fraternal relationship,” he added.
The statement by the spokesperson comes a day after a Pakistan Foreign Office press release welcomed the recent ratification of the Pakistan-Kuwait Defense Cooperation Agreement, signed in June 2023. “This marks another important milestone in the longstanding defense partnership between the two brotherly countries, dating back to the early 1980s. It also reflects the shared resolve of both sides to further strengthen bilateral defense cooperation and elevate their security partnership,” said the release.
The agreement provides a comprehensive institutional framework for expanding defense cooperation, encompassing military training and education, joint exercises, exchanges of expertise, and other mutually agreed areas of collaboration, it added. It will further enhance institutional linkages between the Armed Forces of both countries and consolidate the longstanding defense ties between Pakistan and Kuwait. “Pakistan and Kuwait will continue to work closely to implement the Agreement in accordance with its provisions, thereby expanding bilateral defense collaboration, strengthening their enduring defense partnership underpinned by mutual trust, shared interests, and close institutional cooperation, and contributing to regional peace, security and stability;” the release concluded.(KUNA)
