KUWAIT CITY, Aug 10: Kuwait Customs authorities have foiled an attempt to smuggle approximately 1.25 kilograms of narcotics concealed inside license plate panels in an air cargo shipment arriving from Pakistan, and arrested an Asian suspect.
The General Administration of Customs, represented by the Customs Investigation and Search Department, carried out the seizure in coordination with the General Administration for Drug Control.
According to authorities, the shipment aroused suspicion and was subjected to detailed inspection procedures. Customs officers discovered three panels containing approximately one kilogram of heroin, along with another panel containing around 250 grams of a crystalline substance suspected to be methamphetamine, commonly known as crystal meth.
An Asian national suspected of involvement in the smuggling attempt was arrested in the air cargo area following coordination with the General Administration for Drug Control.
The suspect, along with the seized narcotics, was referred to the competent authorities for legal action and further investigation.
The General Administration of Customs reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening security controls at Kuwait’s customs ports and combating attempts to smuggle narcotics and other prohibited substances.
Authorities said continued inspection and monitoring efforts are aimed at protecting national security and safeguarding the safety of citizens and residents.
