ISLAMABAD, May 8: Pakistan has sought assistance from Singapore to help repatriate seafarers aboard vessels seized by US authorities and currently located near Singaporean waters, according to Pakistani officials.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said Islamabad requested Singapore’s support for the welfare and return of 11 Pakistani and 20 Iranian crew members affected by the seizures.
Dar said he discussed the matter with Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan and also held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi as part of ongoing diplomatic coordination over the incident.
According to Dar, Pakistan remains in close contact with Tehran and is prepared to facilitate the safe repatriation of Iranian nationals to Iran through Pakistani territory if required.
He added that Pakistan’s Foreign Office and other relevant authorities were coordinating with US officials and international partners to ensure the safety, welfare and earliest possible return of the Pakistani nationals involved.
