Pakistan Says Iran Welcomed Mediation Efforts to End US-Iran Conflict

ISLAMABAD, Aug 25: Pakistan said Iran has welcomed Islamabad’s efforts to facilitate dialogue with the United States, de-escalate tensions and seek a peaceful resolution to the ongoing conflict.

Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir held talks with senior Iranian officials in Tehran on preventing further escalation, reopening the Strait of Hormuz and finding a path toward ending the US-Iran conflict. The Inter-Services Public Relations said Munir’s visit was part of Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to break the deadlock between Washington and Tehran and promote lasting regional peace and stability.

Munir met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and other senior officials. Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi later said “significant progress” had been made toward restoring a US-Iran memorandum of understanding, adding that Pezeshkian had outlined Tehran’s concerns and expressed hope the talks would lead to further progress and lasting regional peace.
