KUWAIT CITY, Dec 1: Pakistan has proposed the establishment of a digital corridor with Kuwait to strengthen collaboration in cybersecurity, digital infrastructure, and technology, the country’s ambassador, Zafar Iqbal, said.
Iqbal praised the leadership of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad, highlighting his digital transformation agenda as a driving force for the country’s technological future. “Pakistan highly values its historical partnership with Kuwait and is ready to support the country in achieving its digital vision,” he added.
The ambassador noted that discussions with the head of the Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), Khaled Al-Zamel, focused on regional cooperation in technology and cybersecurity, emphasizing the need for trusted partnerships amid recent developments. “We see the possibility of establishing a digital corridor to enhance joint work in cyber resilience, regulatory cooperation, digital skills, and pilot projects,” he said.
Iqbal outlined Pakistan’s capabilities, including an IT workforce of 600,000, over 20,000 technology companies, more than 300 international tech firms, and a growing network of data centers and cloud infrastructure. The country also maintains an integrated national cybersecurity framework with specialized laboratories and computer emergency response teams, positioning it as a strong partner in digital collaboration.
He highlighted recent initiatives, including the Pakistan-Kuwait Technology Conference in September 2025 and Pakistan’s Digital Foreign Direct Investment Forum, which created platforms for government dialogue, business connections, and knowledge exchange in sectors such as artificial intelligence, fintech, health technology, cloud services, and cybersecurity.
“Pakistan offers a skilled IT workforce and decades of experience in GCC markets, making it a reliable and cost-competitive digital partner for Kuwait,” Iqbal said.
Looking ahead, the ambassador emphasized that the proposed digital corridor could include cooperation in cybersecurity, smart digital infrastructure, cloud computing, 5G readiness, talent exchange programs, and partnerships between startups, aligning Pakistan’s growing IT expertise with Kuwait’s forward-looking digital vision to promote regional digital prosperity.
