Pakistan Passport Plunges from 174th to 183rd in 2026 Global Ranking of 199 Countries

ISLAMABAD, Sept 15:  Pakistan’s passport has fallen to 183rd place out of 199 countries globally in 2026, according to the latest Passport Reports ranking, reversing the modest gains recorded over the previous two years.

The Pakistani passport has a Mobility Score of 42, meaning holders have facilitated access to 42 destinations through visa-free entry, visas on arrival and electronic travel authorisations (eTAs).

However, the figure does not mean Pakistanis can travel to 42 countries without a visa. According to Passport Reports, only nine destinations currently offer visa-free access to Pakistani passport holders.

Another 29 destinations provide visas on arrival, while four offer access through an eTA.

The nine visa-free destinations are Barbados, Dominica, The Gambia, Haiti, Micronesia, Rwanda, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Trinidad and Tobago, and Vanuatu.

Pakistan’s latest ranking represents a sharp reversal after several years of improvement. The country was ranked 180th in 2023, 175th in 2024 and 174th in 2025 before falling nine places to 183rd in 2026.

Only Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan are ranked lower than Pakistan in the latest index.

Pakistan’s Mobility Score has also declined. It increased from 36 in 2020 to 47 in 2023, remained at 47 in 2024, then fell to 44 in 2025 and 42 in 2026.

The latest nine-place decline is the largest year-on-year fall recorded in the seven years covered by the report.

Pakistan’s 2026 ranking is also 14 places lower than its 2020 position of 169th, although its current Mobility Score remains six points higher than in 2020.

Under the Passport Reports methodology, Pakistan’s 2026 score consists of nine visa-free destinations, 29 destinations offering visas on arrival and four allowing entry through an eTA. A total of 156 destinations require Pakistani passport holders to obtain a visa before travel.

Visa-free access is generally considered the strongest form of passport mobility. Visa-on-arrival arrangements allow travellers to avoid obtaining a visa before departure but require them to complete immigration procedures and meet entry requirements upon arrival.

An eTA also provides facilitated travel but requires travellers to obtain electronic authorisation before boarding.

The latest figures therefore show a deterioration in both Pakistan’s global passport ranking and Mobility Score compared with 2025.

Passport rankings can vary between indexes because organisations use different methodologies and may classify visa-on-arrival, eTA and other forms of facilitated entry differently. The figures in this report reflect the methodology and data published by Passport Reports.
