Pakistan Condemns Houthi Attack on Red Sea Vessel That Killed Three Pakistani Nationals

ISLAMABAD, Aug 12: Pakistan on Wednesday strongly condemned a Houthi attack on a commercial vessel in the Red Sea that killed three Pakistani nationals, describing the strike as a violation of international law and a serious threat to maritime security.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar said the attack endangered innocent lives and threatened freedom of navigation. Another Pakistani national was injured in the incident. The Houthis attacked the food-supply vessel in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait on Tuesday, killing six people and injuring 10 others.

Dar said Pakistan was in contact with Saudi authorities and Yemen’s internationally recognized government to establish further details about the incident. He also directed the Pakistani Embassy in Riyadh to coordinate immediately with the relevant authorities and pursue arrangements for the retrieval and repatriation of the remains of the deceased Pakistani nationals, while ensuring all possible assistance is provided to the injured Pakistani citizen.

“We are closely following the situation and will continue to remain in close contact with the relevant authorities,” Dar said.
