ISLAMABAD, Jun 10: Pakistan launched new airstrikes in Afghanistan on Wednesday, killing at least 13 people, according to Taliban authorities, as cross-border tensions between the two countries escalated further.
The Taliban said Pakistani forces struck three provinces — Khost, Kunar and Paktika — and claimed that 11 children were among the dead, with 14 others injured, mostly women and children. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid accused Pakistan of violating Afghan airspace and bombing civilian homes.
Pakistan later confirmed it carried out the strikes, stating that at least 26 militants were killed in “precise and calibrated” operations targeting hideouts along the border areas. Pakistani officials did not comment on the Taliban’s allegations of civilian casualties, saying the strikes followed recent militant attacks inside Pakistan.
The latest escalation comes amid ongoing violence along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, which has seen repeated clashes and retaliatory strikes in recent months despite earlier ceasefire efforts.
