ISLAMABAD, April 11: Optimism is building around ongoing negotiations between the United States and Iran, with a Pakistani defense analyst suggesting that the talks could soon yield “good news.”
Retired army general and senior defense analyst Tariq Rashid Khan told The Associated Press that he expects “big news this week” from the negotiations, crediting Pakistan’s military leadership for helping facilitate dialogue between the two sides.
Khan said Pakistan’s Army Chief Asim Munir played a key role in bringing Washington and Tehran to the negotiating table, warning that further escalation in the region could have triggered a wider conflict. He added that Islamabad agreed to support mediation efforts due to concerns over regional stability.
Meanwhile, Iranian officials signaled conditional openness to a possible agreement. Iran’s First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref said a deal with the United States could be reached if talks are conducted under what he described as an “America First” approach.
In comments posted on X, Aref warned that no agreement would be possible if negotiations were influenced by what he called “Israel First” positions, adding that Iran would otherwise continue its defensive posture.
The remarks come as diplomatic efforts intensify in Islamabad, where international attention is focused on whether the talks can lead to a de-escalation of tensions or a broader political breakthrough in the conflict.
