Overcrowded residential areas on radar – 1300 Asian workers evacuated

KUWAIT CITY, Apr 22: The Ministry of Interior in coordination with civil defense sectors and the Ministry of Health carried out a large-scale evacuation in the Mirqab and Sharq regions. Around 1,300 Asian workers were evacuated.

The Ministry of Health, through epidemiological investigations, discovered that the expatriate workers’ housing sites in the Sharq and Mirqab are fertile incubators for the Corona virus.

Buses transferring Asian workers to quarantine areas

Sources stated that they do not adhere to the instructions of the Ministry of Health regarding importance of of social distancing, hence there have been spike in large numbers of infections among them.

In addition to this there are large number of expatriate workers do not report the infection and also about people who have symptoms of infection. Also a large number of these workers violate the residence law.

The Ministry of Interior had drawn up a plan for the evacuation of Asian workers from Sharq and Mirqab regions specifically residential areas of expat workers from number of buildings and houses. They were asked to evacuate and sufficient time was given to pack their luggage before they were transported by civil defense buses to the sites of quarantine in the Kabad and Al-Ratqa the evacuation was accompanied by medical teams to examine workers to isolate those who showed symptoms of infection.

The medical teams in the quarantine conducted compulsory checks for those who were evacuated to identify the infected and those who had contact from, pointing out that similar operations will be applied in other locations of the capital inhabited by expatriate workers.
