Over-60s permit tied to health scheme; Decision expected in days

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 11: The Public Authority for Manpower has said the decision on renewal of work permits for those 60 years and above who hold only high school certificates and below is still pending for the Public Authority for Manpower (PAM) to ‘calculate’ the health insurance which is to be issued by private insurance companies, reports Al-Anba daily quoting reliable sources.

The source indicated the decision will come into effect as soon as it is approved by the PAM board of directors which is chaired by the Minister of Commerce and Industry, Dr. Abdullah Al-Salman. The decision will be implemented immediately after its issuance after the establishment of the private health insurance mechanism by the concerned authority. The decision is expected to include three categories of insurance and each category has a specific fee in accordance with the controls and conditions approved in special insurance cases. The decision is expected to be issued before the end of next week and PAM is expected to open the renewal window.

After obtaining the health insurance the transaction must be submitted through the authority’s e-services for automatic renewal. Regarding the insurance fees, the source explained it is determined according to the mechanism, and about the inclusion in the decision all those who reached 60, including university degree holders, the source said it is as of now for only for high school certificate holders, while the inclusion of other categories is subject to the decisions to amend fees that are being studied.
