A tanker was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, causing damage to its engine room, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Sunday.
According to UKMTO Warning 150-26, issued on October 4, the vessel’s master reported the incident. All crew members were reported safe, and there was no environmental impact reported at the time.
Authorities are investigating the incident. UKMTO advised vessels operating in the area to transit with caution and report any suspicious activity.
The warning did not identify the tanker, its flag, the location of the strike within the Strait, or the source of the projectile
