ABU DHABI, Jul 14: The UAE Ministry of Defence said two national oil tankers, Mombasa and Bahia, were struck by two Iranian cruise missiles while transiting the southern passage of the Strait of Hormuz in Omani territorial waters.
The attack killed one crew member aboard the tanker Mombasa, an Indian national, and injured eight others. The injured include six Indian nationals and two Ukrainian nationals, with four reported to be in serious condition.
The ministry said the missile strikes sparked fires on both vessels, causing material damage. The fires were later brought under control, and authorities did not immediately disclose the current condition of the tankers.
Condemning what it described as a "brazen attack," the UAE said the incident constitutes a serious violation of international law and threatens regional security and stability. The ministry stressed that the country reserves its full right to respond to the escalation and to take all necessary measures to protect its territory, people, residents, and national interests.
The Ministry of Defence said it remains on high alert and is fully prepared to confront any threats aimed at undermining the country's security and stability. It also urged the public to rely only on official sources for information and to refrain from spreading rumors or unverified reports.
