ADEN, Aug 15: One port security officer was killed and eight civilians were injured in a series of Houthi attacks targeting the Al-Mokha district and port in Yemen’s southwestern Taiz province, state-run media reported.
According to Saba TV, the Iranian-backed Houthis launched missile and drone attacks on Al-Mokha Port and the district center. Two sailors remain unaccounted for following the attacks.
Sadık Duveyd, spokesperson for the Yemeni government-affiliated National Resistance Forces, said the Houthis had attacked Al-Mokha over several days using 40 ballistic missiles, 46 drones and bomb-laden boats.
Duveyd said the attacks targeted Al-Mokha Port as well as facilities providing essential services to civilians.
Al-Mokha, a strategically important port on the Red Sea, is controlled by forces aligned with Yemen’s internationally recognized government.
The Houthis also launched several missile and drone attacks on the port and district center last week, killing and injuring numerous people, according to Yemeni authorities.
