KUWAIT CITY, Aug 25: A free fall in the prices of shrimp with the increase in the supply of shrimp to the market, a basket was sold for 15 dinars in the Sharq market auction yesterday afternoon, while the price of one kilo in the stalls varied starting from 3 dinars according to size, after the price of shrimp reached 66 dinars for one basket at the beginning of the month, reports Al-Rai daily.

The head of the Kuwaiti Federation of Fishermen, Zaher Al-Suwayan, the daily “the mild conditions and the fishermen’s return from their vacations to work have restored the spirit to the fish market, and added 700 baskets of shrimp (each 22 kilos) were sold.

The shahamiya type was sold for 15 dinars, while the Umm Nairiya basket was sold for between 50 and 55 dinars. He explained that “the price of a kilo of shrimp on the stalls in Sharq ranges from one to 3 dinars, depending on the size, while the mead has disappeared from the market,” stressing that “what is caught is in small quantities and does not enter the market.”
