TEHRAN, Aug 9: Iranian state-linked media has released a video appearing to show Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, following reports that he was in critical condition.
The video, aired by the semi-official Mehr News Agency, shows Khamenei surrounded by several people and appearing to speak with them. Mehr did not provide details about when or where the footage was recorded or identify those accompanying him.
Mehr reported Sunday that Khamenei had met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is entering his third year in office. According to the agency, the meeting focused on Iran’s current challenges, including public livelihood concerns, the ongoing military conflict with the United States and economic engagement with foreign partners.
However, questions have emerged over the authenticity and timing of the footage being presented as evidence of Khamenei’s current condition.
Fact-check reports circulating online indicate that the video is not recent and was originally released in March 2026. This raises doubts over whether the footage provides any indication of Khamenei’s present health or whereabouts.
The conflicting claims come amid heightened scrutiny of Khamenei’s public appearances, with limited recent footage fueling speculation about his health.
