Oman Welcomes US-Iran Ceasefire, Urges Push for Lasting Peace

MUSCAT, Apr 8: Oman has welcomed the recently announced ceasefire between the United States and Iran, describing it as a positive step toward easing regional tensions.

In an official statement, Oman praised Pakistan for its mediation efforts that helped secure the 14-day cessation of hostilities. The agreement comes after weeks of escalating conflict that threatened broader instability across the region.

Oman has long played a quiet but influential diplomatic role, previously facilitating negotiations between the two sides in its capital, Muscat, as well as in Geneva.

The Omani Foreign Ministry stressed that the ceasefire should serve as a foundation for deeper diplomatic engagement. “The Sultanate of Oman emphasizes the importance of intensifying efforts now to find solutions that will end the crisis at its roots and achieve a permanent cessation of hostilities in the region,” the statement said.

Analysts view Oman’s position as part of a broader push among regional actors to prevent further escalation and move toward a sustainable political resolution.
