MUSCAT, March 23: Omani authorities said Monday the death toll from heavy rains has risen to five, amid forecasts the weather will persist this week.
The National Committee for Emergency Management's search and rescue sector said one person was found dead after a vehicle carrying ten people was swept away in valley in Barka, bringing total fatalities to five.
The Ministry of Education announced remote learning for schools, universities and colleges in most governorates from Tuesday through Thursday, except Dhofar and Al-Wusta.
The decision followed guidance from the National Emergency Management Center, citing adverse weather conditions and prioritizing safety of students and staff.
Heavy thunderstorms since Saturday have caused flooding and stranded vehicles, with authorities urging caution as unstable weather is expected to continue this week. (KUNA)
