MUSCAT, Jun 23: Oman’s foreign minister said talks with senior Iranian officials in Muscat focused on ensuring toll-free and safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz, a key provision of a recently agreed U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding.
The minister said he met Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Monday after their return from discussions with U.S. officials in Switzerland.
“Welcomed Iran’s Speaker of Parliament HE Dr. Ghalibaf and FM Dr. Araghchi in Muscat this evening,” he wrote on X, describing the talks as constructive and centered in particular on the Hormuz-related provisions of the agreement.
He added that the two sides affirmed their commitment to international law and to guaranteeing toll-free safe passage for commercial vessels through the strategic waterway.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important maritime routes, serving as a critical passage for global energy shipments and commercial traffic.
