MUSCAT, July 4: Omani customs officials at Muscat International Airport have intercepted an attempt to smuggle narcotics into the country, seizing more than five kilograms of marijuana concealed in the luggage of an Indian national, according to local media reports.

Authorities confirmed that approximately 5.3 kilograms of marijuana were meticulously hidden across multiple bags within the suspect’s personal belongings—a method indicative of advanced planning and concealment techniques.

The operation, led by Oman Customs, highlights both the heightened vigilance of the nation’s border control agencies and the increasingly sophisticated tactics adopted by international drug traffickers attempting to breach regional security.

In a statement, Oman Customs said the seizure was the result of coordinated intelligence gathering and sustained surveillance efforts by its officers, which ultimately led to the arrest of the suspect.

The agency reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the country’s borders and curbing the illegal entry of narcotics and other prohibited items.

The confiscated drugs have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation. The suspect has been referred to the Public Prosecution for legal proceedings.
