The new head coach, Tarik Sektioui

MUSCAT, March 23: Oman Football Association has named Moroccan coach Tarik Sektioui as the new head coach of the senior national team, replacing veteran Carlos Queiroz after a mutual termination of his contract.

Queiroz, 73, took charge in July 2025 on a one-year deal but left following disappointing results. In 11 matches, Oman recorded three wins, three losses, and five draws, exited the Arab Cup at the group stage, and failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup after losing in the Asian playoff. Reports also cited regional issues in the Middle East as a factor in his departure.

Sektioui, 48, brings an impressive record, having led Morocco to the Arab Cup title in Qatar and guided Morocco’s Olympic team to a bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Oman FA has not revealed contract details as the team gears up for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup in Saudi Arabia.
