KUWAIT CITY, Oct 27: The Kuwait Gymnastics Federation has officially appointed Bulgarian Olympic champion Laura Trayts as the new head coach of the women’s rhythmic gymnastics national team, following the resignation of former coach Iryna Kovalchuk of Ukraine.
Trayts will assume her role immediately, leading the team’s preparations for upcoming international events, including the 2026 Asian Junior Championship.
Her appointment came after the federation carefully reviewed several profiles of elite international coaches. Trayts brings with her an outstanding career filled with achievements at the European, World, and Olympic levels, highlighted by her gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
A graduate of the National Sports Academy in Sofia with a Bachelor’s degree in Rhythmic Gymnastics Coaching, Trayts represented Bulgaria’s national team from 2012 to 2021. She began training at the age of four and joined the national team when she was twelve.
Since beginning her coaching career in 2021, Trayts has specialized in body technique and apparatus training — including rope, hoop, ball, clubs, and ribbon — along with physical conditioning, flexibility training, and choreography development.
