CHICAGO, Oct 11, (Agencies): Dorothy Hoffner, the 104-year-old woman who recently achieved a world record in skydiving, passed away on Monday. This remarkable Chicago resident captured global attention when she became the oldest person to partake in a skydive on October 1. Prior to Hoffner's incredible feat, the title of the oldest parachutist was held by Sweden's Rut Linnéa Ingegärd Larsson, as confirmed by Guinness World Records, who earned the record in May 2022 at the age of 103.

Skydive Chicago and the United States Parachute Association issued an official statement confirming Hoffner's passing. The statement conveyed their deep sorrow at Dorothy's demise and expressed their honor in contributing to her world-record skydiving experience.

Skydive Chicago had been working closely with Guinness World Records to officially validate Hoffner's remarkable accomplishment, according to a report.

Dorothy Hoffner's dear friend, Joe Conant, shared the news of her peaceful passing in her sleep. Her unexpected death left those who knew her deeply saddened.

"It came as quite a shock," Conant said, adding, "She gave an incredible amount of her spirit and life to all of us, and it inspired all of us." Conant had originally met Hoffner five years ago when he worked as a caregiver at Brookdale Senior Living. He recalled that in 2019, he mentioned his own plans to go skydiving to Hoffner.

Her enthusiastic response surprised him. "I want to go," she said, and he initially thought she meant to watch. Conant explained all the details, but she was resolute, saying, "Yeah, that sounds great. I want to try it." Not long after, on her 100th birthday, Hoffner successfully completed her very first skydiving adventure.
