Oil sector fighting corruption – KD 22.5 million recovered

KUWAIT CITY, Sept 1: Oil sector is working on its own to combat corruption by holding perpetrators to account. For this reason, the sector has referred 20 officials to the Public Prosecution, Anti-Corruption Commission, and other investigative bodies over the past five years, reports Al-Rai daily.

The daily quoting reliable sources pointed out that Kuwait Petroleum Corporation and its subsidiaries conducted several investigation committees to look into the practices mentioned in the reports issued by the State Audit Bureau- according to the developments and results the companies’ administrations see. 
They noted the recommendations were harsh and strict, besides the imposition of 52 disciplinary penalties, which includes the dismissal of four officials from service without indemnity. They added the strictness of oil sector in dealing with public funds related violations led to the recovery of KD 22.5 million.

They pointed out that oil sector achieved high percentages in the account settlement report submitted by State Audit Bureau to the National Assembly’s Budget and Final Account Committee, as the latest report (2018/2019) showed the extent of seriousness of the bodies subject to the settlement of observations where 83 percent of the overall observations were totally or partially settled. 

The corporation and its subsidiary companies obtained the highest points in the annual evaluation regarding its relationship with the State Audit Bureau, as it maintained high rates exceeding 90 percent in the past five years.
