JEDDAH, Sep 16: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Tuesday condemned attacks by Yemen’s Houthi militia targeting Mecca and the Medina region.
In a statement posted on X, the OIC said the attacks “instill fear in innocent civilians, violate the sanctity of holy sites and mosques, and provoke the sentiments of Muslims around the world.”
The OIC General Secretariat said acts committed by the Houthi militia against holy sites, mosques and civilian infrastructure constitute terrorism and run counter to Islamic values and international norms, principles and law.
The statement followed an announcement by the Saudi-led Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen that Saudi air defenses had intercepted and destroyed a Houthi drone south of Mecca before it entered the city’s prohibited airspace.
