Offensive Social Media Content Leads to Arrest of Kuwaiti Woman

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 21: The Criminal Security Sector has arrested a Kuwaiti citizen for violating public morals through content published on social media, and has taken legal action against her, the Ministry of Interior announced.

In a statement, the Ministry said the arrest was carried out by the Criminal Security Sector, represented by the General Department of Criminal Investigation’s Cybercrime Department, as part of ongoing security efforts to combat cybercrime and protect societal values.

According to the details, security authorities monitored a video clip published by the woman on social media platforms in the form of a question-and-answer program. The clip reportedly contained phrases and questions that were deemed offensive to public decency and inconsistent with the values, customs, and traditions of Kuwaiti society. The content was also considered likely to negatively affect public morals.

After identifying the individual, she was summoned by the competent authorities, during which she admitted to filming and publishing the video in question.

The Ministry added that coordination was carried out with the relevant authority at the Public Prosecution, which determined that the published content constituted a criminal offense under applicable laws. Consequently, the accused, along with the case file, has been referred to the Media Prosecution to take the necessary legal measures against her.

The Ministry of Interior reaffirmed its firm commitment to monitoring and addressing any violations that undermine societal values or public morals, stressing that it will continue to apply the law strictly against all offenders, without exception.
