OCA, Caribbean Olympic Committees strengthen sports cooperation

OCA President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and Keith Joseph, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of the Caribbean, signed the six-year agreement.

MADRID, Aug 8: The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Association of National Olympic Committees of the Caribbean signed a cooperation agreement in Barcelona, Spain,   aimed at strengthening sporting ties between Asia and the Caribbean.

OCA President Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani and Keith Joseph, President of the Association of National Olympic Committees of the Caribbean, signed the six-year agreement, which will remain in effect from 2026 through 2032, with the possibility of an extension by mutual consent.

The agreement covers the exchange of expertise in sports event organization, athlete development, and sports management. It also includes plans to hold joint seminars, conferences, and other scientific and educational sports programs.

Sheikh Joaan, who also serves as President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, said the two organizations would exchange information, knowledge, and expertise to support the continued development of sport.

The partnership brings together the OCA’s 45 National Olympic Committees and the Caribbean organization’s 32 member countries and territories, providing a broader platform for cooperation and the sharing of sporting experience.

The agreement is expected to contribute to the development of athletes and sports professionals while creating new opportunities for both regions to learn from each other’s experience in organizing and developing sport.
