Number of 60+ expats down 17%

KUWAIT CITY, March 7: Official data shows 13,500 male and female expatriate workers aged 60 years and over and working in the public and private sectors in Kuwait left the labor market from Jan 1 to the end of Sept 2021, but the number of domestic workers in that age group increased during this period of time, reports Al-Anba daily. The total number of expatriates in the government and private sectors aged 60 and over decreased by 17 percent within 9 months, as their total number decreased from 81,500 at the beginning of 2021 to 67,980 by the end of September 2021, a decrease of more than 13,530.

The number of expatriates 60 years and above in the government sector during the 9-month period decreased by 17 percent, including 1,025 male and female expatriates; it decreased from 6,065 on January 1, 2021 to 5,040 at the end of last September. In the private sector, the number of residents aged 60 and over decreased also by about 17%, equivalent to 12,500 male and female workers, as their numbers decreased from 75,450 at the beginning of 2021 to 62,940 male and female migrants on September 30, 2021.

Labor data of domestic workers indicate that their numbers increased by 12 percent during the year extending from the end of September 2020 to the end of the same month of 2021 by 1,281 male and female residents, as their number increased to 12 thousand on last September 30, compared to 10,700 during the end of same month of 2020.
