ABU DHABI, Jun 19: Abu Dhabi Police has warned drivers and road users against throwing waste from vehicles, stressing the importance of maintaining public cleanliness and preserving the emirate’s environmental standards.

The police, in coordination with the Monitoring and Control Center, said littering from vehicles is a traffic violation under Article (71) of the Traffic Law and carries a fine of AED 1,000 along with six black points against the offending driver’s record.

Authorities urged motorists to ensure that passengers also dispose of waste properly in designated areas and to follow responsible practices that contribute to road safety, environmental protection and Abu Dhabi’s public image.

Abu Dhabi Police said throwing rubbish from vehicles contributes to pollution, harms the environment and negatively affects the quality of life in the emirate.

The force reaffirmed that it will continue awareness campaigns aimed at promoting social responsibility among road users and reducing unsafe and uncivilized behaviors caused by negligence or lack of awareness.
