KUWAIT CITY, Sept 29: Kuwait’s General Directorate of Nationality and Travel Documents has announced that Kuwaiti citizens aged 21 and above can renew their passports electronically through the Sahel app, subject to the applicable conditions.
Passport renewal through Sahel
Citizens can complete the renewal process by following these steps:
- Open the Sahel app and select Services.
- Choose the Ministry of Interior.
- Select Kuwaiti Passport Services.
- Choose Renew Kuwaiti Passport.
- Select the passport collection location and enter the automated address number.
- Choose the passport validity period — five or 10 years, depending on the available options.
- Upload a recent personal photograph that meets the approved specifications.
- Review the information and complete the renewal fee payment electronically.
Important passport renewal reminders
- Citizens are advised to check the validity of their passports, as well as their children's passports, before planning travel and renew them well in advance to avoid problems during travel.
- When renewing, applicants must upload a recent, clear photograph showing their current appearance.
- The photograph must have been taken within the previous six months, comply with the approved specifications and must not be reused from the previous passport.
- Citizens under 21 years of age cannot use the electronic renewal service and must renew their passports by visiting the National Identity Centers accompanied by their guardian, with all required documents.
- The Ministry of Interior also reminded citizens that passport validity is linked to the Civil ID card for travel to GCC countries.
- Citizens cannot travel to GCC countries using the Civil ID card if their passport has expired, even if the Civil ID itself remains valid.
The service is part of Kuwait’s efforts to facilitate government procedures and allow citizens to complete passport renewal transactions electronically through the Sahel platform.
