KUWAIT CITY, Aug 31: Director of the Engineering Licensing Department at the Kuwait Municipality branch in Hawally Governorate Eng. Khaled Buarki confirmed that the commercial inspection campaign is not limited to a certain sector or activity, as it covers all licensed commercial activities, which require municipal and technical approvals. In an interview with Al-Akhbar TV, Buarki revealed that the department is in charge of monitoring building permits, overseeing shop licenses, and ensuring technical approval for commercial activities
He clarified that all licensed commercial activities are under the scope of the campaign like restaurants, electrical appliance stores and other types of businesses. He pointed out that the Ministry of Commerce and Industry covers a large number of commercial activities, while the criterion for an activity to be included in the campaign is the existence of a commercial license that requires municipal and technical approvals.
He emphasized that informing business owners about the nature of the requirements, violations and penalties makes them more aware and cautious, thus, helping them avoid committing violations and paying fines. In a related development, the Municipality uncovered three main violations related to commercial licenses during the campaign. First is opening or operating a business without a license.
The fine for this violation ranges from KD4,000 to KD5,000, in addition to the issuance of a closure order. The second violation is adding an unlicensed area or altering the business premises without municipal approval. The fine ranges from KD1,000 to KD5,000, in addition to the issuance of a closure order.
The third violation is adding or engaging in an unlicensed activity without the approval of the Municipality. The fine ranges from KD500 to KD1,000, in addition to the issuance of a closure order. The campaign includes awareness messages through the platforms of the Municipality to inform business owners about the types of violations and penalties, and to explain the importance of obtaining the necessary approvals before starting a business or making any modifications in the business place.
