‘No hotel, no travel’ – Money not refundable

KUWAIT CITY, Feb 11: The spokesperson for the Director- General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Saad Al-Otaibi, said constant meetings are held with the concerned parties to implement the Cabinet’s decision regarding institutional quarantine for seven days at local hotels for all passengers who arrive into the country at their own expense, as of February 21, reports Al-Qabas daily. The daily added, the incoming passenger will have to register with the Kuwait Traveler platform, and complete the prescribed 7 or more days quarantine period at home. In a statement to Al-Qabas daily Al-Otaibi announced the most significant perception raised regarding institutional quarantine is that no citizen or resident travels outside the country except after booking and selecting the institutional quarantine site in a hotel and paying the costs in full, saying, “the money is not refundable. The traveler will pay it before travel, so that it includes the institutional quarantine period set for 7 continuous days.”

“On how to deal with people coming to the country for the first time,” Al-Otaibi said: “First-time arrivals must book a hotel through the Kuwait Traveler platform before their arrival.” He pointed out that the airlines will be entrusted with making sure that travel requirements are met for those coming to the country, whether in relation to conducting a PCR examination or adopting institutional quarantine in hotels.

Al-Otaibi this is done in coordination with the tourism sector of the Ministry of Information and the Kuwait Hotels Company – hotels which are part of the institutional quarantine according to specific health requirements. Regarding the most important requirements in hotels, Al-Otaibi stated the application of health requirements will be the responsibility of the hotels, as special floors will be allocated in each hotel for incoming travelers, and meals will be provided to them in closed boxes to prevent the transmission of the coronavirus. Regarding hotel prices and their costs, Al-Otaibi said no specific price has been agreed upon. Rather, the traveler can choose the hotel and the price that corresponds to his financial capabilities in the institutional quarantine, as 3, 4 and 5-star hotels will be available for all arrivals to the country.

Quarantine
Al-Otaibi listed 10 controls for institutional quarantine in hotels – Institutional quarantine for all citizens and residents; Airlines must verify travelers’ reservations in hotels;

The traveler has the freedom to choose the hotel according to his capabilities; Providing the opportunity for all hotels in the country to benefit from the institutional quarantine; Each hotel will allocate floors for quarantine for a week.

This is in addition to after the institutional quarantine period ends, the person completes the quarantine period at home; The hotel will ensure that packed meals are provided to the quarantined to prevent infection with the virus;

Hotel charges are not refundable, and the traveler will pay them before travel; Civil Aviation coordinates with the “media” represented by the tourism sector and the Kuwait Hotels Company and application of health requirements of the quarantined people will be the responsibility of hotels.
