LOS ANGELES, Nov 12, (Agencies): The 66th Grammy Awards nominees were recently unveiled by the Recording Academy, and notably, no K-pop artists secured nominations in any category. The eligibility window for nominations encompassed recordings released between Oct 1, 2022, and Sept 15, 2023.

Surprisingly, the voting members of the Academy, responsible for determining the nominees, overlooked the K-pop industry, including the globally renowned group BTS. Despite BTS securing Grammy nominations in the past three years, including nods in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance category, this year, they were notably absent from the list, both as a group and as individual members.

In the 65th Grammys, BTS received nominations for Album of the Year (Coldplay’s “Music of the Spheres”) and Best Music Video (“Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment)”). However, this year marked a departure from the trend.

In June of the previous year, BTS had announced a shift towards individual activities due to impending mandatory military service. Despite this, members like Jungkook achieved significant success, with his song “Seven (feat. Latto)” debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Following the announcement of the nominations, disappointment among fans was palpable on Twitter, where the hashtag “BTS BTS BTS” trended as fans expressed their dissatisfaction with the Grammy outcomes.

Other prominent K-pop acts, such as Tomorrow X Together, Stray Kids, NewJeans, and Fifty Fifty, known for their strong presence on Billboard charts, also failed to secure any nominations.

The Grammy website shed light on the extensive voting process, revealing that the Online Entry Process Access Period occurred from July 17, 2023, to Aug 31, 2023. First Round Voting spanned from Oct 11 to Oct 20, 2023, with the Final Round Voting scheduled from Dec 14, 2023, to January 4, 2024. The winners will be unveiled during Music’s Biggest Night on Feb 4, 2024.

The Grammy website explained, “The Academy’s voting members, all involved in the creative and technical processes of recording, then participate in (1) the nominating process that determines the five finalists in each category, and (2) the final voting process which determines the Grammy winners.”
