KUWAIT CITY, May 23: The treasurer of the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies Khaled Hamed explained the nature of the problem related to shortage of face masks in cooperative societies.

In a statement, Hamed said, “The Cabinet, based on the last mandate, instructed the Ministry of Health to hand over the masks to Ministry of Social Affairs, and the issue is still subject to coordination between the two ministries.” He added that the Cabinet assigned the Ministry of Social Affairs – upon receiving the masks – to hand them over to the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies, but they still remain in the custody of the Ministry of Health.

On the prices of various masks, and whether or not it is related to quality, Hamed said the prices of face masks have been increased due to airfreight cost, noting the quantity of face masks at the Ministry of Health is 13 million.
