Newborn count dips in 2020

KUWAIT CITY, March 15:Kuwait recorded the lowest birth rate for over 15 years, during the ‘Corona Year’, reports Al-Rai daily. The daily quoting reliable sources said 2020 recorded on 50,409 births, which is the lowest number since 2005. In 2005 48,459 births were registered. The birth rated during 2020 decreased by 2.9 percent, equivalent to 1,517 births, compared to 2019, when the number of births reached 51,926. In terms of births according to nationality, the number of Kuwaiti births during 2020 decreased by 1.8 percent, which was 31,295 compared to 31,870 births in 2019. As for the resident births, their number decreased by 4.69%, equivalent to 942 births, to reach 19,114 in 2020 compared to 20,056 in 2019.
