WELLINGTON, July 14: New Zealand on Tuesday summoned Iran's ambassador to express serious concern over the escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz and the wider Persian Gulf region, the country's foreign ministry said.
In a statement, the ministry said Wellington conveyed its concerns directly to the Iranian envoy and urged efforts to reduce tensions and prevent further escalation.
New Zealand also condemned what it described as the destabilizing activities of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), including operations extending beyond the Middle East, stressing the need to uphold regional security and stability.
