KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: In their ongoing investigation of the citizens and Egyptians who participated in the bloody fight at the commercial complex in Hawalli area where one person died, officers from the Criminal Investigation Department have arrested 11 new suspects — two Kuwaitis and nine Egyptians, in connection with the case.

A security source had said that directives were issued by the Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohamed Al-Khalid to deport any person among the expatriates that instigated or participated directly or indirectly in the fight inside or outside the commercial complex, and the main suspects were to remain in custody until the investigations and legal procedures were over.

The deceased was hit and killed with a pick-up driven by a Kuwaiti youth in the course of a fight between a group of Kuwaitis and Egyptian nationals at the commercial complex. The prime suspect who’s in his 20s admitted knocking the late Egyptian down with a vehicle in an attempt to free his friend during a fight over KD 19 price difference of a Play Station.

Two citizens and two Egyptians also suffered various degrees of injuries. Security sources said the acting Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs in Ministry of Interior Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah and other high ranking security officials visited the scene to resolve the issue and managed to disperse a large gathering of spectators from the roads.

All participants of the fight were referred to concerned authorities, and the suspect was charged with premeditated murder.

Meanwhile, the management of the complex confirmed that technical means was employed to identify all persons who participated in the clash inside and outside the premises to ensure that all culprits receive necessary punishment for breaking the country’s laws.

The Egyptian Embassy in Kuwait has extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased youth. A statement issued late Sunday confirmed that the embassy through its legal counselor follows up investigations on the death of its national, in coordination with Kuwait’s security authorities. It noted the consulate has since issued the death certificate and transferred the body to Egypt on the expenses of its government. It assured the outcome of investigations will be announced after completion.
